Radiology:

The Department of Radiology, Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) provides diagnostic and interventional radiological services to thousands of in-patients, out-patients, emergency and medico-legal cases of CHK supporting their clinical management. It is the tertiary level referral centre for diagnostic and forensic radiology from secondary level Sindh government hospitals.

The Department is organized into a main Centre located close to A&E Department, a CT & MRI centre and outreach services at general OPD, Gynae-obs OPD, orthopedics OPD, and A&E Department besides providing on-call ultrasound services to the medical and surgical ICU’s and Burns Centre as well as the Central Prison Karachi and the Sindh Rangers.

The facilities include radiography employing CR and DR technology, digital fluoroscopy, ultrasound including Doppler scan, Fibro scan, digital mammography with stereotactic biopsy, echocardiography, interventional procedures, CT scanning with cerebral, thoraco-abdominal and peripheral CT angiography and MRI with MRA. Emergency Radiology section provides 24-hr radiography, ultrasound and CT scanning. The department is PNRA approved. Future facilities include PET-CT and further elaboration of trauma radiology services. All services are provided free of cost in keeping with the hospital policy.

The department is run by 4 faculty members, 40 medical officers including 8 consultants, 23 FCPS residents and 40 technologists and supporting staff, as well as paramedical trainees.

The department is equipped with PACS and HIS/ RIS have been implemented.

Educational programs cater to provision of radiology training leading to Fellowship and Membership of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. It also provides rotational training to FCPS in other specialties. Technologist training is provided to radiography certification from Sindh Medical Faculty.
